Phil Spencer now head of Microsoft Xbox
I don’t think that the choice could have been better – Phil is doing great in communicating with the gamers on various social media, and he is fantastic on stage to events such as E3.
Phil who previously was head of Microsoft Studios is a good choice, as the most hardcore gamers have been asked for more gaming and less non-gaming entertainment, and Phil will definitely lead the Xbox team in that direction.
“With me you’re going to get a focus on gaming first and a best platform to play games on,” he told Polygon. “It’s not a focus we ever lost but it’s one I’ll be accentuating at Microsoft. It’s really going to be a gaming-led focus with Xbox and my new role allows us to execute on that.”
He continued: “It’s my job to make sure the best content shows up there…[On Xbox] maybe a mix of things we’re bringing back from the past, like Killer Instinct, which was very successful, as well as new IPs, like Quantum Break, Sunset Overdrive and other things we haven’t announced yet.”
He also expect the planned content, including not yet announced content, to help the Xbox One sales on a scale that will make it catch up to the Playstation 4 sales.
In his 25 years Microsoft career, he has been part of building up the key franchises of Xbox, such as Halo, Gears of War, Fable and Forza.
