E3: Sony Media Briefing
Welcome to the Sony Media Briefing at E3 2013. Sony showed their console back in february, which was a pretty smart move considering that everyone knew or at least was quite sure that Microsoft was going to show a new console this year as well and now it’s time to know more about the console. Join in for our opinion on their media briefing – note that some stuff is not mentioned as I focused on what I found interesting.
Note that you can watch the show at its entirety at the bottom of this article, so if you prefer to do that instead of reading, be my guest.
Sony actually started out by talking about PS3 games, just as Microsoft was talking about X360 games, both manufacturers wanted to make sure that everyone was aware of the fact that they wanted tos upport the current gen for a couple years.
Puppeteer got another trailer with an ending that made the crowd jump in the chairs.
A gameplay trailer for Beyond: Two Souls was shown – this is one game I really really want, it looks so good!
Batman Origins showcase along with announcement of exclusive content for PS3.
Finally Sony showed us the look of their console. At very first sight, it looks quite like the X1, which made the crowd making a funny awkward silence moment – when everyone realised it was kind of scewed and it was different from the X1, cheers commenced.
This was followed by an Infamous: Second Son trailer, a must-have game for me. Initially I wasn’t going to get the first Infamous, but after my order of my PS3, the seller included the game with the console, as the Infamous bundle got released in the meantime. And as you remember, I loved the second game.
Sony started to talk about how they would welcome Indie game developers on board – including by self publishing, saying words such as open and inclusive in the same sentence. A bunch of indie games is announced including Octodad, Don’t Starve and a remake of Oddworld: Abe’s Odyssey subtitles New’n’Tasty – which I kind of look very much forward to play. Some of these games is already out for PC, but will be console exclusive for the PS4. Weather or not it will be timed or not we will see – Microsoft claims that they will be open and welcoming to indie developers, but they didn’t really show anything of the sort.
Diablo III will hit both PlayStation consoles and include exclusive characters such as Nathan Drake from the Uncharted games.
Kingdom Hearts III was announced and will be headed to both PS3 and PS4. Square Enix later told at their briefing that the game also will be coming to Xbox One.
Assassins Creed IV: Black Flag gets an exclusive character, Aveline from the Assassins Creed game on vita, subtitled Liberation. The game froze a couple of times onstage at the gameplay demo, which was a little embarrassing.
Another Watch Dogs gameplay trailer, showing driveable cars and a cool getaway. Will work with SmartGlass and tablet app, possibly Vita? PS consoles will get 1 hour of exclusive gameplay.
And then Sony shot the ball out of the stadium, they won E3. They made use of the unpopularity that Microsoft has received over the last couple of weeks and the audience that they won’t impose any sort of DRM on their machine or their first party games – but developers could introduce DRM restrictions. The question here is how and on what level. No online check either.
PlayStation Plus membership will carry over to the PS4 provided you use the same login. It might also give you your current library of content bought on the Store when Gaikai is turned on. Furthermore Tretton promised that Plus as we know will continue with the same value in free games, but it was implied that Plus membership is required to play online. Later reports online confirms this. Yeah I am gonna skip my Gold membership in favour of Plus.
DriveClub, Sony new racing IP will be a part of the program at launch.
Live gameplay of Destiny. Looks marvelous.
Cloud gaming with PS3 games, will work on Vita. PS3 games on Vita anyone? Yeah that is pretty cool I think.
AAAAAAAND the PS4 will be cheaper than the X1. Sony just won E3 2013.
Here’s the event in it’s full length. Enjoy!
