Preview: Resistance: Burning Skies
Another story about earth being invaded by aliens that have no other purpose on exterminate the human kind. Save civilians, fellow soldiers and fight the hordes of aliens. Or you can just crawl up on a big one, navigate around inside it and get spit out before taking it out. Crossing a bridge that gets bombarded with bombs from both the aliens and the humans really makes you feel like you’re in the middle of the fight.
The cutscenes consists of drawings that kind of moves without being real animated – I couldn’t skip them, hopefully they include that in the final game. Not too interesting story, but the personality from the different characters in game makes up for it.
Touchscreen controls consists of throwing grenades, loading/make use of special abilities for each weapon (like loading the crossbow with a plasma arrow before shooting at the enemy and tag an enemy for taking all your bullets for x number of seconds no matter where you’re pointing your gun), opening doors and collect weapon upgrades and notes (notes that consists of small fragments of stories from fallen in the war).
Weapons is really fun, upgradeable by collecting cubes that you’ll find in the levels. The most fun ones is the crossbow with an alternative weapon/bullet consisting of plasma, and there’s another weapon that can shoot through obstacles.
Being less than fond of the generic shooter, funnily enough this one actually caught me a little off guard and I actually want to play the full game when it releases. Other than a few troubling encounters with different gigantic enemies or a good amount of smaller enemies, and no way to get into cover, the game is pretty beatable – but again, I played the game on casual difficulty.
