E3 Liveblog: Microsoft
Pre show hosted by Microsoft have been going on for a little while. They are talking about what we can expect from the show from the announces from the last couple weeks. Forza Horizon surprised me, it went under my radar – until now. Major Nelson now talks about the show last year.
Whats the best advice to give to the people onstage?
- Its all about the game, youre just gonna show it, you KNOW the game
Trailer for Halo 4 is being shown. I’m not a Halo fan, but the game looks incredible in the cinematic trailer. Now followed by talking about the game.
How do you narrow down what to include the gametrailer?
It’s so tough, its a big deal, we don’t want to spoil the surprises for the fans, so we have to be careful what to show in the trailer
Now for the E3 conference!
Incredible live action trailer is introducing the show. Turns out to be a teaser for Halo 4.
Live gameplay session has begun for Halo 4. Going through a jungle, and you meet some midgetlike orcs. Time to use those bullets. Small enemies flees the scene, you follow them, just to be surprised by a big guy with a flaming skull as face, roaring at you. Nice female voice as commentator/sergeant.
Welcomed by their host. Thanking their partners and consumers. “We want to show you even more amazing things than we have before. This year we are bringing you the greatest line of game ever. Innovation that make gaming better than ever before.” Promise of Xbox, mobile gaming including cell phones AND tablets.
Shit, that means I’ll have to get rid of my android tablet at some point…
New trailer is being aired. Splinter Cell Blacklist. Looks like you’ll be fighting against terrorists. Gameplay session started, 3rd person stealth/shooter. There’s a certain feeling of Just Cause 2 without the ridiculous physics. “It’s all about infiltration You’ll be able to move fluidly through the environment”
Fifa 13 is being shown. Voice recognition will play a part.
Joe Montana is onstage, helping them out with showing off NFL 13.
Another trailer. Fable the Journey. Looks marvelous.Talking about their partners, Turn 10, Lionhead and more.
A couple trailers is being shown, including Forza Horizon, which will be the next in the series – the name implies it will be open world, which was confirmed in the pre-show by Major Nelson. Set launch date: 23rd october.
Now talking of expanding into more regions, right now with voice recognition with kinect – in mexico. Mention of Nickolodeon, Paramount movies, Machinima – jumping to sports on the xbox, including UFC and MLB.tv will grow with NBA(over 200 games a year) and NHL (40 games a week) and ESPN1,2,3 and U 24/7 added. “All in one place”
Woah, Machinima on the Xbox?! Neat!
“You can not talk about entertainment without mentioning MUSIC!” Over 30 million tracks on tablets, phones, Windows 8, and Xbox is being promised. Name is “Xbox Music”.
This looks quite nice, using the metro style, perfect for phones and tablets.
Talking about Kinect now. “This s the future”. Stefan Olander from Nike enters the stage. Taking about shoes, celebrities and how to get better. “We want to bring motivation and inspiration to everyone” – “Compare and compete” – announcing “Kinect Training”. Will work together with your phone to remind you of due work-out. Trailer ensues. “Get athlete fit”
The most neat about this is the app for the phone
Mark Witten enters. Talking about Xbox SmartGlass, everything can work together, including iOS and Android devices. Gives information about the movie you’re watching, can send movie from tablet to xbox – and both phone and tablet knows that the xbox is playing a movie. Devices work together to merge the entertainment. Even games information can be shown on a tablet, the example they are using is Halo Waypoint. Interesting. Internet Explorer will jump on the Xbox this year.
I’m not sure how this is going to work on other than microsofts own devices. We’ll see.
Streaming on the Xbox went down. Looking for alternatives. I’ll have to watch the rest on gamespot. Not good MS, not good.
Chrystal Dynamics director enters. Tomb Raider is being shown, looking really good, Uncharted lookalike in feeling, I’m looking very much forward to this game. DLC announced, will be exclusive at first on Xbox 360. Stream on Xbox went back up by the end of the trailer.
Trailer for Ascend – New Gods has been shown.
Twisted Pixel announces LocoCycle through a teaser.
A Tron/Portal adaption, Matter is also announced. This will be for Kinect.
Quickly followed by a gameplay session for Resident Evil 6. Blowing up zombies ill always be fun. It doesn’t look like it will be a survival horror game, but more of a shooter/adventure game, including quick time events. Looks VERY cinematic, we’re talking Heavy Rain style here. DLC will be on Xbox 360 first.
Alex Ruiz enters. Showing people Wrecketeer via a gameplay session. Funny characters, light, cartoony setting – this looks very fun to me. Will be out this summer.
Trailer for South Park – The Stick of Truth is being shown. Will look EXACTLY as on TV. Matt Stone enters, making a little bit of fun of the SmartGlass announcement. The game’s phrase is “You’re the new kid in town, trying to fit in”
Trailer for Dance Central 3 bursts out at the screen. Including a short interview with one of the artists featured in the game. Suddenly he appears live onstage, making a live show. Wow, Microsoft are certainly setting their stake on this game.
Don Mattrick enters the stage. He’s talking about home entertainment, including today’s announcements. Call of Duty Black Ops 2 is now being shown, with the promise of all new content will be exclusive for Xbox 360 for a set period. Trailer is followed by a gameplay session. Again, a female voice for sergeant over the talkie/headset. Is the young boys better at listening to a female voice rather than a male one?
Show over. That was fun, but nothing really out of the extraordinary, apart from the music live show as part of the Dance Central 3 announcement.
