Bonkers for Borderlands!

Pandora is now open!

Let me get this straight, I LOVED Borderlands. The story wasn’t exactly deep but I loved it for its humor, its addiction to multitudes of shiny loot and most of all its co-op. The only reason I didn’t actually make it to the end (which I regret now, though hearing how it ended it seems like I didn’t miss much) was because the environments didn’t really change that much. I got tired of looking at the same rocks and endless amounts of sand.

Oh, a rock…
Now I know what you’re thinking, “Don’t play a game like that if you expect lush forests and squeaky clean space age tech”. You’d be right of course, but that’s not what I went into the first Borderlands expecting. I was expecting wasteland and truckloads of it, but the game was massive, and a girl can only look at infinite wasteland and ramshackle towns for so long! Which is why Borderlands 2 is piquing my interest.

Borderlands 2 promises the same high standards of humor, loot and co-op fun plus a change in scenery once in a while. Hallelujah! Find me a chair I can live in because I’m in it for the long haul!

Well hello there, badass!
What really got me going on this sequel was a trailer I saw recently (shown below). It showcased all of the new environments and just seeing it reminded me of all the fun I had in the original game. All the crazy situations, crazy people and crazy randomized weapon combinations made for an interesting and exciting experience.

The graphics seem to be similar to the original and, I believe, are an acquired taste. They aren’t super sleek high reality but I wouldn’t say they hit cartoonish either. It’s a style that borderlines to a graphic novel and in game it can feel a bit strange. I found it’s something that you either love or hate. Either way, if you continue to play, you get used to it.

A bazillion choices!
They seem to be sticking with the same 4 classes from the original but with a lot more skills. I played Lilith the Siren in the original but I think I’ll be kicking ass with Zer0 the Assassin this time around. Who wouldn’t want to wield a massive katana and a sniper rifle?! Though I can definitely feel the lure of wielding the elements and setting enemies on fire with Maya the Siren (similar to Lilith). Then again, I also have the choice of exploding turrets with Axton the Commander. Or getting my nerd rage on with Salvador the Gunzerker who can dual wield any 2 weapons in the game. All characters can be visually customized too. Ahh choices, choices, but it’s what this game is all about and I love it!

All-in-all it seems like they are heading down the bigger and better route for Borderlands 2, and in all honesty, I am more than ready to return to the Borderlands to become a badass and defeat the antagonist aptly named Handsome Jack!

Gamer across many platforms since early childhood. I love to be immersed in worlds from other people's imagination, which is why it's no surprise that I'm an RPG'er at heart. Though I do enjoy a variety of genres... and cakes...
