quote:
"Nothing big, I know, but I was proud. Maybe decency and feminism will penetrate even the deepest corners of the internet nerd man cave"

It’s good that harassment is slowly disappearing, it would always be better if it decreased even faster, but at least it’s a development in the right direction.
But… a few things in this closing comment do annoy me. The first thing is the word ‘feminism’, I know it’s probably just me, but in the last couple of years, this word really started to annoy me, because more than half of the times that I (personal experience) have encountered it, it wasn’t aimed at gender equality, but female supremacy. Silly, I know, but it annoys me nonetheless.
The second thing annoying me is the use of ‘nerd man cave’ in a generalizing fashion in the same sentence with the word ‘decency’. I get it that it’s well worth to point out a decreasing generalization, but to use another one at the same time leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

Please don’t get me wrong, I’m not all being pro-male, but the closing comment just rubs me the wrong way. I do get the seriousness of the problem. I have left countless XBL Parties because of irritating or harassing guys, even without women being in the parties.

So I get that women can encounter difficulties in the deepest corners of the gaming crowd, but many gamers can encounter the same difficulties when crawling out of those corners. nerdyfeminist234234 should know better than to use those terms so lightly.

From a males point of view..

I have been playing mmo's pretty much all my life (since ragnarok beta), and I have seen my share of chauvanism and sexist remarks.... This however has changed drastically the past years, starting (in my case) in Dark age of Camelot.
Now, boys/men seek out guilds and clans who have females simply because it makes for a better atmosphere and a nicer tone in chat and on voicecomms, wich in turn makes people work together better, act less selfishly, and in general just makes the game more enjoyable for everyone.... Btw, I'm not just talking out of my arse here, I have had this discussion with many guys from both DaoC, WoW, Eve and a number of other games...

For now I cant even imagine playing in a guild without females, because I remember how it was before you (girls) really started getting into the games, or had to hide to avoid the constant nagging of horny teenagers...

I was lucky enough to join a very nice alliance that was actually run by a couple of females in DaoC, and have since kept contact with all of them, even as most of us transferred to WoW, we kept together and slowly built a VERY strong guild, consisting solely of mature grownups helping eachother achieve their goals (however ridiculus they did seem.... girls and their cosmetics <3 ).
By now it has developed into a RL-type relationship, where I have met a few of them and their families, and we speak regularly on Skype (most are from the US). I believe its going to be lifelong friendships, atleast I hope so...

I can only say "keep pwning", we are alot that appreciate what you bring to the table, both in empathy, organisation and skills ... No its not fun to get your butt handed to you in a duel "by a girl", but it's those kinds of things that makes a game fun... Challenge and mocking rights! XD

Keep it up and nevermind the arseholes.... But dont expect us to take it easy on you ingame either, we will beat you to the ground if we can!!
